Belgian FA goes on strike
Staff at the Belgian Football Association, the KBVB, walked out on Friday. Staff are unhappy with the unprecedented decision to sack 22 staff members without any consultations.
Staff of the Belgian FA gathered in the entrance hall of the FA's headquarters in Brussels on Friday and refused to do any work.
Trades unionist Francis Stevens: "On Thursday a further ten staff who had been working here for 38 years were told they were being sacked on the spot. Apparently, staff are footing the bill for matters that came to light earlier this year when the FA had booked hotel rooms in Brazil that were not used!"
"On Monday we want to discuss the inhuman way that the Belgian FA implemented the sackings."
Friday night’s soccer match was able to proceed despite the strike. Zulte Waregem beat Racing Genk 2 – 0. This is only Genk’s second defeat of the season. In play on Saturday Lokeren held Anderlecht to a 1 - 1 draw.
