Transport Minister resigns
In a newspaper interview Mr Ledoux said of Ms Galant "Ms Galant defends specific economic and private interests. Despite all the efforts made, I have reached the conclusion that it is impossible to work with her or her staff. Moreover, she uses Gestapo practices. She wants the names of the leading civil servants that won’t do what she wants without question.”
The minister came under more fire during Thursday afternoon’s question time in the Federal Parliament. MPs from opposition parties had documents with them which they said proved that Ms Galant had be negligent and had lied.
The Prime Minister announced that the accusation levelled against the Transport Minister would be one of the issues to be discussed in the special parliamentary investigative commission into the 22 March attacks.
News of Ms Galant’s investigation surfaced just after 10am. A press conference is planned for 11am.
Who is Jacqueline Galant?
42-year-old Jacqueline Galant studied politics at Mons University before joining the staff of the then Foreign Minister Louis Michel. Although originally a member of the Christian democrat party PSC, Jacqueline Galant joined the Francophone liberal party MR in 1999.
In 2001 aged 27, she took over from her father as Mayor of the Hainaut municipality of Jurbise.
Jacqueline Galant has been a member of the Chamber of Representatives since 2003. She became a minister for the first time when the new federal government led by Charles Michel took office on 11 October 2014.
