Thyssen elected Vice-President of EPP
The Fleming Marianne Thyssen has been elected Vice-President of the European People’s Party EPP. The 68-year-old French politician Joseph Daul was re-elected President of the EPP that groups Europe’s Christian democrat and Conservative parties.
Mr Daul was the only candidate and polled 96% of the votes. The EPP is the largest group in the European Parliament.
The European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Marianne Thyssen was elected to the position of Vice-President of the EPP together with nine other EPP politicians, including the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn.
The European Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness Commissioner Jyrki Katainen was elected Deputy President.
