Government wins confidence vote

After Tuesday’s “State of Union” in which the Federal Prime Minister Charles Michel (Francophone liberal) outlined his government’s plans for the coming parliamentary year came Wednesday’s all day debate on the government’s proposals. Thursday morning’s session of the Chamber of Representatives opened with a vote of confidence in the Federal Government and its plans for the coming year.

Not entirely unsurprisingly the MP’s from the parties that make up the governing centre-right coalition (the Flemish nationalist, the Francophone and Flemish liberals and the Flemish Christian democrats) voted for the government.

The opposition Flemish and Francophone socialists and greens, Francophone Christian democrats, the far-left PTB/PVDA+ and the far-right Vlaams Belang voted against. The one man Francophone right-wing party PP abstained.
