De Wever: “We will never surrender to extremism and terror”
“The effort we are asking people to make now will be beneficial”, Mr De Wever added. "We must carry on. We must push through reform. There is no other option.”
The leader of Flanders’ biggest party also devoted part of his speech to this week’s terrorist attacks in France.
"We must state clearly: this can’t go on. We will never surrender to extremism and terror.”
Mr De Wever also took the opportunity to launch an attack on the Francophone socialist party PS that is now in the opposition in the Federal Parliament for the first time in 25 years. "Despite all Laurette’s (Onkelinx) shrieking they are no longer in the government.”
The Flemish nationalist leader praised the Federal Government, saying it was doing what should have been done much earlier. He added that further austerity measure couldn’t be ruled out. “I can’t rule out that we face difficult years, but I am convinced that we will emerge stronger”, Mr De Wever concluded.
