Brussels population rising "twice as fast"

The population of the City of Brussels, the inner-city borough of the Brussels Region, has grown by 28,000 in only ten years. Today 162,000 people are registered in the City of Brussels.

The most recent figures show that the population of the City of Brussels grew by 3% last year.

Nearly 24% of the population is under 19 years of age. Only 12% is over 65.

Since 2008 the population of the City of Brussels has increased by over 2.5% every year. The rise in the City of Brussels is mirrored in other Brussels boroughs. Across the Brussels Region population numbers are rising twice as fast as in the country as a whole. Over 1.1 million people now live in the Brussels Region.
