Kenyan and Brit win 20km of Brussels

David Maru (photo below) of Kenya is the winner of this year's 20km of Brussels run. The Kenyan ended first in a field of 40,000 crossing the finishing line just over an hour after HRH the Princess Astrid had fired the starting shot.

Britain's Sophie Hardy (pictured) raced to fame crossing the finish as the first woman after one hour and 14 minutes.

The Red Cross reports that quite a few people needed treatment during the course of the race. Most suffered light injuries, often because they were not wearing sensible shoes. Nearly 500 needed treatment because of the heat or other ailments. Dehydration, strained muscles and other minor injuries created work for Red Cross carers. Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries.
