A convincing 4-0 win for Belgium in the Davis Cup

Joris De Loore’s (ATP 190) three sets win (6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-2) in the 2rd singles match ensured Belgium of victory in our Davis Cup weekend against Brazil in Ostend (West Flanders). The result of the weekend’s tennis was a 4 games to 0 victory for the Belgian team. Our team, coached by Johan Van Herck, was already certain of retaining their place in the World Group after just 3 games.

On Friday David Goffin (ATP 14) set the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 win against Thiago Monteiro (ATP 101). The second match saw Steve Darcis (ATP 103) Thomaz Bellucci (ATP 32) on 4 sets6-7 (5/7), 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.

In the doubles on Saturday Joris De Loore and Ruben Bemelmans pulled off a stunt, beating Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in 5 sets 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Giving Belgium a 3-0 lead.

The Brazilians forfeited their second doubles match due to illness.
