Century-old skull discovered in River Dijle

A century-old skull has been recovered from the Dijle river in Leuven (Flemish Brabant). One thing is for certain: the skull is very old. At present, it remains a mystery where it comes from. Research will be done to find out how old it is exactly.

Alarm in Leuven yesterday, after a passer-by had noticed a skull-like object in the river Dijle - water levels are low now due to the dry weather. The man alerted the police, who came to the spot with members of the fire services and a medical examiner of the judicial authorities.

Once the skull had been fished from the river, it became clear that no (recent) criminal act had been committed. The discovery was an archaeological one. Further research will have to determine how old the skull is exactly.
