Two police cars torched in Molenbeek

Two police cars were set ablaze in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek last night. One suspect has been detained. Investigators are now trying to link him to one or both of the attacks.

The first vehicle to be torched was sent to the area to investigate an attempt to set light to a garage door. The police entered the garage but when they returned outside their vehicle had been set alight. Police, who blame local delinquents, think a petrol bomb was used.

Around midnight an unmarked car belonging to the Molenbeek youth brigade was torched near the West Station. One suspect was detained following a tip off from the emergency services that had received a call from a father whose son had suffered serious burns to both hands.

The lad was questioned and according to police sources could not give a proper account of his activities.
