Low-emission zone: Ghent follows Brussels and Antwerp

The city of Ghent is planning a low-emission zone, following in the footsteps of Brussels and Antwerp. Polluting cars will be banned from this area, which will coincide with the area in the inner city (inside the ring road) where a general maximum speed of 30 km/h was introduced recently.

It hasn't been decided yet which cars will be banned exactly, but the measure will apply as from 2020, says the Alderwoman for the Environment Tine Heyse. "This is not a measure to target cars or motorists. We just want cleaner cars in the city. In order to give motorists the time to prepare, we chose to impose the measure only in 2020."
