Fewer repatriation during half-term break
The travel insurer VAB has noted a fall of 13% in the number of its client that were repatriated from their holiday destinations due to accidents or ill-health during last week’s spring half-term break compared with the spring half-term last year. VAB that also offers breakdown cover also noted a fall of 9% in instances of its customers requiring help due to breakdowns or accidents involving their cars.
The number of skiing accidents was up 4% compared with last year’s spring half-term break. However, this can be explained by the fact that more Belgians choose skiing holidays this year than was the case in the spring half-term break in 2015.
Thanks to the good quality of the snow, most of the injuries weren’t serious and VAB repatriated 13% fewer holiday-makers than it did during the spring half-term break in 2015. 44% of accidents on the slopes happened in France and 39% in Austria.
There were also 16% fewer car accidents involving VAB customers. Of those requiring breakdown assistance 21% had engine problems, 20% flat tyres and 18% battery and starter motor issues.
