Oldest Belgian woman dies in London

The oldest Belgian woman has died in a monastery in the London suburb of Pinner. Marie Anne Ghislaine Joséphine de Clerque Wissocq de Sousberghe to give her her full name was born in Brussels on 7 November 1904. Since 6 April last year she had been the oldest living Belgian. She reached the grand old age of 111.

Although born in Belgium Marie Anne Ghislaine Joséphine de Clerque Wissocq de Sousberghe left to become a nun in the UK. There she was known as Sister Anne or Sister Romain. She died in Pinner on the northern fringes of London.

She had been the oldest Belgian since the death of the 111-year-old Anna de Guchtenaere on 6 April 2015. The oldest Belgian is now Alicia Van den Berghe-Corveleyn from the West Flemish coastal city of Ostend. Alicia Van den Berghe-Corveleyn was born on 8 januari 1905 and is 111 years old.
