No high speed train services between Brussels and Lille
TGV services from Brussels to other French destinations such as Charles De Gaulle Airport, Lyon and Marseille are also not running.
Frédéric Sacré of the company responsible for managing Belgium’s rail infrastructure Infrabel told journalists that “Signaling cables have been sabotaged at several locations. This is not a case of cable theft, but a malicious act. The judicial authorities and the police are investigating at the scene.”
At least 15 trains have already been either cancelled or have suffered big delays. Infrabel estimates that trains should be able to use one of the two tracks again sometime between 2 and 3pm.
The disruption to high speed rail services has come at a particularly inopportune moment with many people wanting to take the train to Paris for the World Climate Summit.
