Warning of deadly Dutch ecstasy pills

The Belgian drugs hotline has warned party goers to watch out for a new deadly ecstasy tablet that is being imported from the Netherlands. The pill contains abnormally high levels of MDMA.

The tablets are square in shape, light yellow in colour and display the letters 'ADE'. The pills were put on the market to mark the Amsterdam Dance Event. The Dutch authorities say that several versions of the tablet are in circulation.

The Dutch Trimbos Institute warns: "Use of ecstasy containing a high dose of MDMA increases the risk of an overdose leading to acute psychotic symptoms, arrhythmia, and liver failure and overheating of the body. Consumption can result on death."

More and more high dose versions of ecstasy have surfaced in recent years. The drug is the most popular synthetic drug on Belgium's dance circuit.
