Farmers’ protests: travel disruption feared

Thousands of European and Belgian farmers are expected to converge on Brussels on Monday as European farm ministers gather here. The various demonstrations are expected to trigger massive disruption on the roads and across public transport.
The first tractors had arrived before the break of dawn.

One group of protesters plans to gather at Schuman circus, while a second group will convene at the North Station and make its way to Schuman. The protesters will meet up around 11AM. The protests are expected to last at least until 6PM.

At police request the Brussels local transport company MIVB is closing the Schuman metro station near the European institutions. Trains will drive through the station but fail to stop. Passengers bound for Schuman alight at Merode or Maalbeek.

Bus and tram services via the city centre may be rerouted or curtailed.

The farmers are demanding support for dairy farmers and fair prices for their products.
