Migrants fanning out to Belgium as Calais checks bite

An increasing number of refugees are being seen in and around the town of Veurne and along coastal roads near the border with France. The refugees hope to make their way to the UK, but as a result of stricter checks in the Calais area are now trying their luck Belgium.

Also in Belgium, the refugees are attempting to get on board lorries bound for the United Kingdom.

Police chief Nico Paelinck: "Each month we encounter several dozen refugees. We're worried refugees will be heading for our area for some time to come and that refugee camps will pop up here like in Calais and Dunkirk."
