Belgians to make Monopoly, Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit!

The Flemish playing cards' manufacturer Cartamundi has acquired two American-owned factories that produce world famous board games including Monopoly, Risk, Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit.

The Turnhout-based company has reached an agreement with the American toy giant Hasbro for the takeover of plants in East Longmeadow (Massachusetts, USA) and Waterford in Ireland.

The acquisitions means a further 510 workers are being added to its payroll. The company has guaranteed all workers' jobs.

Cartamundi CEO Chris Van Doorslaer: "This is a milestone for our business. As a result of this acquisition we now also become a world leader in the field of board games."

Cartamundi is already a world leader in the production of playing cards. It will continue to produce products for Hasbro and create extra capacity for new clients.

Hasbro intends to focus on the design, development and sale of games. The deal should be complete by the third quarter of 2015.
