Vlaams Belang joins Front National in new EP group

The Flemish far right Vlaams Belang has joined a new rightist group in the European Parliament. Europe of Nations and Liberties was founded on Tuesday. A press communique released by Marine Le Pen, the leader of the French National Front, spoke of the presence of the Vlaams Belang in the new group.

Geert Wilders's Freedom Party and Austria's FPÖ have also joined as has Italy's Northern League.

In order to be recognised and receive subsidies a group needs 25 Euro MPs in the European Parliament. The Front National and its allies can already count on 37 seats.
