14 Belgian university studies reach Top 50 ranking

The QS World University Rankings has given a big thumbs up to 14 of the country's university courses. The 14 courses have all reached a place in international Top 50 rankings devoted to their kind of training.

Eight courses at Leuven University reached a Top 50 position. For Ghent University and the Francophone University of Louvain-la-Neuve the figure is three apiece. Leuven is the only Belgian university to feature in the international Top 100 of the world's best universities.

QS World University Rankings looks at 36 different types of course at 894 universities in 60 countries. Reputation, impact of research and employers' reputations all play a role in deciding the ranking.

Leuven's dentistry course features in the world's Top 5 of dentistry trainings. It's the first time that a Belgian course has made the Top 5 in any discipline.

Philosophy (24), Law (30), Geography (34), Statistics (38), Culture and Development Studies (39), Material Studies (40) and Pharmacy at Leuven (43) all make the Top 50 in their discipline.

At Ghent the best performing disciplines are Veterinarian Studies (27), Psychology and Land (30) and Forestry Management (43).

At Louvain-la-Neuve the best performers are Statistics (29), Philosophy (31) and Economy (45).
