"Hillary Clinton has better cards than last time"

The Flemish liberal leader Gwendolyn Rutten thinks that Hillary Clinton has a good chance to secure the Democrats' nomination for the presidential elections in the United States. Rutten followed the former First Lady's previous attempt, 8 years ago, from close by. She thinks Clinton has better cards this time.

Clinton has not yet joined the race, but is expected to make an official announcement tonight. Rutten remembers her previous attempt well, when Barack Obama eventually took it. Clinton could become the first lady in the White House at that time, Obama the first black politician. Rutten says that Clinton was labelled as conservative due to the new approach by Obama's campaign team.

Clinton later blamed the 'glass ceiling' that makes it harder for women to obtain top positions. "The ceiling still hasn't been broken. But it has 18 million cracks now. She has done a good job in widening these cracks. I am sure she will announce her candidacy tonight and that she will smash the glass to pieces."

"Deliberate move and wise decision" under Obama

Clinton previously said that becoming the first female president would mean she would have to crack "the highest and hardest glass ceiling" there is. Aides say that her campaign for the November 2016 presidential elections will focus on her plans to address economic inequality and will tout the historic nature of her bid.

Clinton first became Foreign Minister (Secretary of State) in the Obama administration, but later abandoned this position to keep a lower profile. "A deliberate move and a wise decision," Rutten says. Generally speaking, Clinton has better cards this time, Rutten claims. "She will combine the experience from the Clinton family with Obama's modern approach. She would write history anyway if she makes it as the final nominee for the Democrats."
