Mad Farid out of prison again

Today, Farid "Le Fou" Bamouhammad is out of prison once again. Because of medical reasons, the Brussels court released him, but set certain conditions

On 30 November 2014, Farid Bamouhammad, nicknamed Farid "Le Fou" or Farid "The Lunatic", was released on medical grounds for a first time. However, last week, he was locked away once again in Sint-Gillis after going to the gates of the penitentiary on his own accord.

Earlier, Bamouhammad applied to leave prison because of his medical condition. According to his lawyers, during the past couple of months, he had already proved that he can integrate well into society. They also argued that he had sustained a "prison psychosis", and for that reason he would no longer belong in a prison cell.

"At the end of March, when Bamouhammad was still at home, the judge decided that he was himself responsible for his psychosis, because he had gone on a severe hunger strike. Not long after this statement, he presented himself at the prison", says VRT's Fatma Taspinar.

"After his renewed imprisonment, Bamouhammad's lawyers were able to start a special procedure at the tribunal court, to once more liberate him based on health reasons. His file must have been very convincing, because now he is indeed free again." However, he has to obey a number of conditions, mainly medical ones.
