Hundreds of thousands flock to the coast

The company representing the tourist industry in West Flanders, Westtoer, has announced that the Easter weekend was a hit. An estimated 400,000 people travelled to the Belgian coast in 3 days' time, including 150,000 day-trippers on Easter, when the sun was out.

Westtoer is using digital measuring instruments to determine the number of holiday makers. "We can see how many people arrive, how long they stay, which stays they are making, and when they return. This allows us to supply accurate figures", explains Geert Hoorens of Westtoer.

More people are expected as the weather forecast is very promising. A high pressure area should bring plenty of sunshine as from Thursday and climbing temperatures. The weekend should have 20 degrees or more for the first time this year. The school holidays have only just begun and run for two weeks.
