Brussels taxi drivers attack Uber drivers

Brussels police have detained a taxi driver after a group of licensed taxi drivers attacked four Uber drivers in Elsene on Sunday night. The Uber drivers were unhurt in the attack but their cars were damaged and one Uber driver reported that he had been the victim of a theft.

The 35-year-old Brussels taxi driver who has been detained told police that together with several colleagues he had used the Uber smart phone app to book a ride.

When the Uber drivers arrived, between four and six licensed taxi drivers pulled them from their cars and attacked their vehicles. The taxi drivers threw flour and eggs at the vehicles used by the Uber drivers and damaged the cars. The smartphone belonging to one of the Uber drivers was stolen.

The incident left the Uber drivers in a state of shock. Police are trying to identify the other attackers.
