Béatrice Berlaimont was murdered

Arlon prosecutors have confirmed that Béatrice Berlaimont was unlawfully killed and that she was found with a rope around her neck and her wrists tied up.

Prosecutors have given further details of their investigation into the death of 14-year-old Béatrice, the girl whose body was recovered from woodland near her school in Luxembourg Province on Monday. The news conference in Arlon lasted eight minutes.

Prosecutors have now said that the schoolgirl was murdered.

Spokeswoman Sarah Pollet confirmed to newsmen what everybody had feared: the death of the 14-year-old was now a criminal investigation, though she could not expand on the child's cause of death.

Béatrice was found with a rope around her neck and her wrists had been tied up. At present nobody is being questioned in connection with the murder. Sarah Pollet asked media organisations not to interfere in the investigation.

Prosecutors do not intend to provide a running commentary on their investigation. Sarah Pollet asked media organisations not to harass the girl's family, detectives and the examining magistrate heading the investigation.
