Ghent student falls to death through garage roof
A 22-year-old student from Zottegem has fallen to his death after crashing through the roof of the Mahy Garage in Ghent. The student climbed onto the roof of the former garage in the course of a night out on the town with friends.
The student climbed onto the roof of the former garage in the course of a night out on the town with friends. He crashed through the roof falling 20 metres and died on the spot. Public prosecutors are investigating the death.
The building located near the Vooruit centre is over 100 years old and has been used as a circus venue. The building has been virtually empty for years, but plans have been drawn up to renovate it and turn it into an underground concert hall.
Last year in a similar incident a 23-year-old student fell to his death through the glass roof of a university building.
