Champions League: 3-0 nightmare for Anderlecht

RSCA Anderlecht lost by 3-0 in last night’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. The German visitors are now the leaders of Group D, with 6 points out of 6. With only 1 point gained in the last two matches, Anderlecht is last.

Even though Dortmund have notbeen performing well in the Bundesliga, they made a very good impression during last night’s duel in Brussels. Anderlecht lost possession of the ball very quickly and the visitors managed to score after three minutes.

Anderlecht tried to turn the tide, but to no avail. A supposed off-side goal by Mitrovic was unjustly rejected. Dortmund stayed in control of the game for the remainder of the first half, but gave Anderlecht more space during the second half. However, when Ramos scored twice for Dortmund in the last twenty minutes, Anderlecht’s hope of a comeback was buried.

High expectations

Anderlecht coach Besnik Hasi remained honest in his post-match raction. “The difference between both teams was very obvious. Due to that early goal, the odds were turned against us. It was very difficult to get back into the match”, he said. “We played well for a while during the second half, but the second goal finished us off. The third one could have been avoided, but we took too many risks and gave them a lot of space.”

“We need to put this defeat into perspective. After our match against Galatasaray and the fact that Dortmund isn’t doing well in the Bundesliga, our expectations were just too high and that’s why we’re so disappointed. But in the end, Dortmund simply played better than us.”
