EURO 2020: Belgian candidacy positively evaluated

The Belgian candidacy to host the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship has been positively evaluated by the UEFA. “This is a positive signal for the announcement of the host countries on 19 September”, according to Alain Courtois, chairman of Euro Brussels 2020.

The European Football Championship is breaking with the tradition of picking one or two host countries and is instead opting for the matches to be played in 13 different ones. Belgium is one of the 19 candidate-hosts and aims to organise the matches in the new stadium planned to be built on Parking C in Brussels.

“Belgium and its Brussels candidacy have been positively evaluated by the UEFA’s technical commission”, said Alain Courtois. “This is a positive signal for the official announcement of the host countries next week in Geneva.”

The UEFA praises Belgium’s experience in organising big events, the great transport links and the abundance of available accommodation in Brussels.

Belgium is targeting the opening match of the European Football Championship. On top of that, two other group matches and an eight or quarter final will also be played in Brussels.
