Lack of mayonnaise triggers prison assault

The good people of Limburg have to wait a little longer for a verdict in the case involving the Hasselt jailbird who attacked a prison guard because he didn't get any mayonnaise with his Belgian fries.

A judge in Hasselt felt he was unable to rule in the case yet and has appointed an expert to establish the exact nature of the injuries sustained by the prison guard.

Standing trial is the 24-year-old Nabil from Maaseik (Limburg). In July last year he complained about the prison food. The jailbird was upset because he didn't get any mayonnaise with his Belgian fries and went on to assault a prison guard.

The young defendant, who has considerable form, also claims that the guard twice made insulting comments about his skin colour.

The prison guard was unable to work for two days after the attack. Nabil was disciplined and held separately from other prisoners for six months.
