Fourth time lucky for Liesbeth Marckx?

Elections in Belgium are only possible thanks to the work of thousands of people who are told to man polling stations. In coming days countless Belgians will be informed by letter that they will have to serve as an election official on 25 May, the date of the Belgian and Flemish general election. For many it's a chore, but one woman, Liesbeth Marckx, who already knows the ropes doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. She has been instructed to man a polling station yet again. It will be her fourth time!

Finding an excuse not to serve as an election official, it's very Belgian, but Liesbeth Marckx, who has now been instructed to man a polling station for a fourth time on 25 May will not be looking for an excuse.

She told VRT Radio's Hautekiet programme she didn't understand why all those people were complaining on Facebook about having to serve: being at work in a polling station is real fun! You should see some of the funny photos on some people's ID. You also see people you haven't seen for yonks and it's always nice to catch up and have a chat! Before you know it, it's time to close shop."

"I first had to go and count votes when I was 24 I've been called up. This is the fourth time. I really could have come up with something else to do on a Sunday afternoon, but a day in the atmosphere of the election is really fun! I'm appealing to everybody: let's make the best of it!"
