A mixed picture in the “facility” municipalities
With three lists standing this time both the Francophone Union list and the Flemish Open list lost ground to the bi-lingual Kraainem Unie list. Union was down 13.6% at 62.8%, while Luc Van Biesen’s Open list was down 7% at 16.8% Kraainem Union won 20.6% of the votes.
Wezembeek-Oppem
In Wezembeek-Oppem the Francophone LB-Union list was up 1.7% on 2006 and won 77.7% of the votes.
The Flemish Woplus list was down 1.7% at 22.3%.
Linkebeek
With just two lists standing this time, the municipal elections in Linkebeek were also a straight battle along linguistic lines.
The Francophone Mayor Damien Thièry’s LB list won 79.4% of the votes, while the Flemish Prolink list was good for 20.6% of the votes.
Drogenbos
In Drogenbos, the Flemish candidates stood on Mayor Alexis Calmeyn’s bi-lingual Drog.Plus-LB list.
The Mayor’s list was good for 63.6% of the votes. The radical Francophone UF list was down 4.9% at 36.5%.
Wemmel
In Wemmel the Flemish W.E.M.M.E.L list was up 21.5% on 2006 winning 43.4% of the votes. This is less than 1% less than the Mayor’s LB list on 0.8%.
The Francophone UF list polled 8.9% of the votes.
The far right Vlaams Belang was down 6.4% and has lost its only councilor
Sint-Genesius Rode
In Sint-Genesius Rode it was a case of status quo.
The Francophone Mayor’s list won 63.5% of the votes, while the Flemish Respect list won 36.5% of the votes.
