Candlelight meeting for Ministers’ staff

A power cut that affected part of Brussels city centre on Thursday morning meant that staff at the offices of the Flemish Minister responsible for employment, the economy, innovation and Sport Philippe Muyters (nationalist) and the Flemish Minister responsible for transport, public works, tourism, animal welfare and the area of Flemish Brabant around Brussels Ben Weyts (nationalist) were forced to work by candlelight.

The power cut lasted for around an hour and affected streets including the Warmoesberg, Sint-Michielsstraat, Dambordstraat and the Martelarenplein that is home to the offices of a number of Flemish Government Ministers.

Hundreds of local residents were also without electricity, as were the many shops and offices in the area that is adjacent to Brussels’ main shopping street the Nieuwstraat.

As can been seen from the above photograph that was taken by Thomas Pollet (an employee at Mr Muyters’ office), Mr Muyters’ staff were not going to be beaten by the power cut. They held their morning meeting by candlelight.
