Belgian Senate now has its own honey
The federal parliament shop has something extra on offer nowadays: honey 'made in central Brussels'. The honey was harvested from bee hives on the roof of the Senate buildings. It's 4 euros for 250 grams, but considering the small supply, one person can only buy one pot.
Two bee hives were installed on the roof of the Senate buildings in central Brussels recently, to highlight the problem of biodiversity and bee deaths. The first honey was harvested on 16 July and has been on the shelves of the federal parliament shop since 29 July.
The project triggered different reactions. The Flemish nationalist N-VA (that would rather abolish the Senate altogether to save money) said via Senator Karl Vanlouwe that this project proves that "it remains difficult to find a useful function for the Senate."
