Photo search takes Briton to Blankenberge

A British man found some old pictures from his grandparents showing a house that he didn't know. He wanted to find out where the house was situated, and posted a message for help on reddit. The search soon led him to the Belgian coastal resort of Blankenberge.

"This tiny photo (see below) was in the belongings of my grandmother who died a few years ago along with a variety of other photos, mainly to do with my grandfather serving in WW2", the message on reddit.com reads. "They lived in England but I know he served abroad in Belgium and France (...) Any idea where this could be or what could be happening?"

The man soon got various answers and had the issue solved. The house turned out to be situated in Blankenberge. The reader who found it made a special effort: he started comparing Google maps and started wandering around in the older parts of the city. He also had a decent clue, as he knew the building had to be a corner house ('het hoekje' is Dutch for 'the corner'). This reduced his search significantly. "So satisfying to bring this to a successful end", the man posted on reddit after completing his detective effort.
