Emma and Lucas Flanders’ most popular baby names

After a year’s absence, Emma has regain the top spot in the list of the most popular names for new-born baby girls in Flanders. Meanwhile, for the fourth year running Lucas tops the list of the region’s most popular names for new-born baby boys.

The figures come from the Flemish children’s agency Kind en Gezin.
During the past year no fewer than 393 new-born baby girls in Flanders were given the name Emma.

This is streets ahead of the second in the list Elise (341 ) and the name in third place Louise. The name that topped the list in 2013 Marie fell back to fifth place with 301 new-born baby girls having been given the name during the course of this year. 

Boy’s names

Once again Lucas was top of the pops when it came to boys’ names with 327 new-born baby boys having been given the name during 2014.

Second in the list was Liam (319) and third was Arthur (308). 
Kind en Gezin believes that last summer’s World Cup may have influenced the some parent’s choice of name for their new born baby boy.

93 new-born baby boys were given the name Eden during 2014, compared to just 43 in 2013. Could the Chelsea star Eden Hazard performances for Belgium in the World Cup have influenced their choice?
