Christian trades union still the largest

With 19.3% of the votes already counted in the elections for union representatives in private companies, the Christian trade union ACV remains the largest in both Flanders and Francophone Belgium. Meanwhile, the socialist trade union ABVV has lost some ground, while the liberal trade union ACLVB has made progress in comparison with the last so-called “social elections”.

With 50.98% of the votes counted so-far, ACV retains an absolute majority of the delegates in the Works/Employees Councils. This is down 0.68% on last time. In the Committees for Prevention and Protection at Work ACV won 51.8% of the votes, down 0.67% on last time.
The socialist ABVV union also is down slightly, winning 34.93% (-0.70%) of the votes for the Works/Employees Councils and 35.77% (-0.61%) in the Committees for Prevention and Protection at Work.

The big winner is the small liberal trade union ACLVB. ACLVB gained 12.32% (up 1.12%) of the votes for Works/Employees Councils and 12.43% (up 1.28%) for Committees for Prevention and Protection at Work.

A total of 776,867 people voted in the elections for Works/Employees Councils and 856,885 in the elections for the Committees for Prevention and Protection at Work, a turnout of 63.5% and 65.4% respectively. This is down slightly on the last social elections in 2012.
