The Brussels municipality of Elsene was the scene of a gas explosion in an apartment building last night. Nobody got injured, but various occupants were evacuated.

The gas explosion took place after one of the residents tampered with his own gas installation. It's possible that this caused the incident, but there is no official confirmation of this as yet. The whole second floor of the building has been damaged.

Elsene also has a big hole in the road due to a water leak in the Atheneumstraat. A tree that was situated close to the leak, was gobbled up by the 'sink hole'. The fire service fears that the hole may become bigger during the course of the day.
